Each line gives the reason in numbers.

This page ranks the 48 mowers in the Botsize dataset that are sold in the EU. Prices are the maker's list price, or the price its page showed that month (sometimes a sale price), with the month we read it.

To measure your own slope, the slope calculator turns a rise and a run into percent and degrees.

Choosing a mower for a 45% slope

A 45% slope climbs 45 cm over each meter of ground, an angle of 24.2°. The sizer passes a model on slope when its published limit is at least 5 percentage points above your slope, so a model needs a rating of 50% or more to pass here. A model rated for exactly 45% to 49% is at its limit and moves to tight.

Many makers publish 45% as their slope limit, which is why the tight group on this page is long. The margin leaves room for measuring error and for wet grass, and a mower at its limit on the steepest stretch has none.

Some makers publish a lower limit for the edge of the lawn. When your steep part runs along the border, read the steepest slope at the edge on each model page. Then confirm your own figure with a board and a level: the slope guide shows how.

Questions about steep lawns

Is a 45% slope the same as 45 degrees?
No. 45% is 24.2°. 45 degrees is a 100% slope, where the rise equals the run.
Why is a mower rated for 45% only tight on a 45% slope?
The sizer wants 5 percentage points to spare. A rating equal to the slope passes the check at its limit, so the model lands in tight.
What is the slope limit at the edge?
A lower figure some makers publish for the border of the lawn, where the mower turns. Model pages list it as the steepest slope at the edge when the maker publishes one.
