Sizing for a 1,000 m² lawn

A 1,000 m² lawn is 10,764 sq ft, about a quarter acre. For this lawn that means 1,200 m² (12,917 sq ft) on one open shape, 1,350 m² (14,531 sq ft) with some beds and trees, and 1,500 m² (16,146 sq ft) for a complex layout. A mower allowed to run in daytime only needs 1.5 times as much again: 2,025 m² (21,797 sq ft) for a typical shape.

Several models are rated for 1,000 m² or 1,200 m², and on a typical lawn of this size both read tight. A model recommended for 1,000 m² gets a limit of 1,200 m² in the sizer, 1.2 times its rating, and is tight for the same reason. Ratings from 1,500 m² up fit with room for beds and trees.

If the lawn is open, with few beds and no tight corners, choose the open shape in the sizer: the rating needed drops to 1,200 m² and several tight models move into fits. Pick the shape that matches the lawn as it is: the margin exists because beds, trees and corners make the mower drive further.

Questions about 1,000 m² lawns

Is a 1,000 m² mower enough for a 1,000 m² lawn?
It covers the lawn but not the margin, so the sizer calls it tight. A typical 1,000 m² lawn needs 1,350 m² (14,531 sq ft).
How many acres is 1,000 m²?
0.25 acre, just under a quarter acre.
