Visit statistics

We count visits with Umami, an analytics tool we host ourselves. It sets no cookies. For each page view it stores:

  • the page address (without the part after the question mark) and its title
  • the referring site
  • your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language
  • the country, region and city it derives from your IP address

It also records a few named events, such as running a tool or opening a link to a maker. Event values are coarse ranges, such as a lawn of 500 to 1,000 m², never the exact numbers you type.

Our web server passes your IP address to the analytics server with each statistics request. Umami uses the address in transit only: it looks up the country, region and city, and forms a visitor code that changes every month. Umami does not store the address, and once a month ends we cannot tie a visit from that month to a browser. The analytics server's own web server logs the address of our web server, not yours.

We keep the statistics for as long as the site runs.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing which pages and tools people use, so we can improve them (article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object at any time (see your rights below).

Server logs

Our web server records each request: the time, the page address without the part after the question mark, the response, the referring page (also without that part) and the browser type. These access logs leave out IP addresses. When you open a link that starts with /go/, the server also logs which link it was and the page you came from, in the same short form.

When a request fails with a server error, the error log records that request together with its IP address, so we can find the fault. The server deletes access, link and error logs after 14 days.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running the site safely and fixing faults (article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object at any time.

Settings in your browser

The site keeps two settings in your browser, so the next visit shows your region and units. The cookie page lists them. The numbers you enter in a tool stay in the page address, so you can share or bookmark a result. Our statistics and access logs leave them out.

Email

If you write to us, we use your address and message to answer you (legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering you, article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Mail to hello@botsize.com is forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing (Cloudflare, Inc., United States) to a Microsoft Outlook mailbox (Microsoft Corporation, United States). Both companies are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which is the legal basis for that transfer.

We delete a thread once the matter is closed, and at the latest 12 months after the last message.

Who else handles the data

  • netcup GmbH, Germany: rents us the server that runs this website and holds its logs.
  • Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany: rents us the server that runs our Umami statistics.
  • Cloudflare, Inc., United States: forwards mail sent to hello@botsize.com.
  • Microsoft Corporation, United States: hosts the mailbox that receives it.

Both netcup and Hetzner act on our instructions as processors. The statistics and the server logs stay in the European Economic Area. Email leaves it, under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. We sell no data and share none with advertisers.
