Every verdict, with the reasons

Lowest US price first, then the larger threshold margin, then the lower robot. Models without a US price come after priced ones. Suction never decides the order: makers measure it in different ways.

Botsize may earn a commission when you buy through links on this page. It never changes the math or the ranking.

This page ranks the 37 robot vacuums in the Botsize dataset that are sold in the US. Prices are the maker's list price, or the price its page showed that month (sometimes a sale price), with the month we read it.

Mixed floors with medium pile carpet

A home of hard floors and medium pile carpet wants a robot that mops the one and keeps the mop off the other. The finder reads two published facts for that: how far the mop lifts, and whether the robot leaves the mop at the dock.

  • A published lift shows as a note with the height, for you to weigh against your carpet.
  • A mop that detaches needs no lift: the robot vacuums the carpet without it.
  • Neither published on a mop that stays on gives a warning. The robot may lift its mop, but the maker does not say how far.

Of 41 mopping robots in the dataset, 25 publish a lift between 7.9 mm (0.31 in) and 17 mm (0.67 in), and 13 detach the mop. The comparison above lists the fitting robots that do one or the other. Medium pile raises no warning on its own; for shag or deep rugs, the thick carpet answer is stricter. Rug edges are thresholds too, as the threshold guide explains.

Questions about carpet and mopping

How high a mop lift is enough for medium pile?
No maker states the pile its lift clears, so the finder shows the figure and does not judge it. A taller lift keeps the pad further from the fibers; a mop that detaches avoids the question.
What does detaching the mop mean?
The robot drops its mop pads at the dock before it vacuums carpet and picks them up again for hard floors. The finder gives no mop warning in that case.
Can a robot be told to avoid the carpet when mopping?
38 of 42 records state that the robot detects carpet. What the app then lets you set differs by maker, and the finder does not check app features, since makers describe them in words rather than in numbers that compare.
